Coma d’en Bonet Cellar wines are from the Terra Alta DO. Mainly cultivates the autochthonous grape varieties Red Grenache and White Garnacha, which cope very well with the cold winters of this region, supplemented by Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Viognier. The body-rich red wines are inspired by maturity and fruit, the elegant white wines by freshness and minerality.the vineyards have been organically cultivated. The philosophy of the cellar is simple: respectful of the environment and the ecosystem that surrounds the vineyards.

COMA D’EN BONET

TERRA ALTA

Coma d’en Bonet cellar is the result of Fuster Amades family winemaking tradition. They have been dedicated the cultivation of vineyards and producing wine from more than 60 years in Gandesa, Terra Alta DO. The vineyards are situated in an irregular topography, with calcareous and clay soils.

Optimal conditions for the perfect development of the vineyards and the production of great concentration and quality grapes are found thanks to its location between 350 – 400 meters above sea level, a rainfall that hardly exceeds 400 mm/ year, and more than 2,000 hours of sunshine during the entire vegetative cycle. The results that Pepe Fuster gains from the poor limestone and loamy soils are astonishing and are pure drinking pleasure: authentic and ground-breaking organic wines from extremely mature and healthy organic grapes.

For a number of years the vineyards have been organically cultivated. The philosophy of the cellar is simple: respectful of the environment and the ecosystem that surrounds the vineyards.

Pepe Fuster of Celler Coma d’en Bonet mainly cultivates the autochthonous grape varieties Garnacha Tinta and Garnacha Blanca, which cope very well with the cold winters of this region, supplemented by Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Viognier. The body-rich red wines are inspired by maturity and fruit, the elegant white wines by freshness and minerality.

All the vineyards are cultivated according to the guidelines of organic farming and certifications are under control of CCPAE (Catalan Council of Ecological Agricultural Production).  This certification ensures that products have always been prepared following the rules of organic farming, and have been controlled in the entire process of production, processing, and packaging.

The organic wines of Pepe Fuster are described by connoisseurs as “overwhelming” and “excellent”. They are the best representation of their people and their land.

VINTAGE REPORT

2016 has been another year in which we found ourselves with a harvest affected by water shortages during the whole growth cycle of the vine (250 l/m2), and especially during the summer (10l/m2).

This significant water shortage has been partially alleviated due to the irrigation water supply that has allowed us to guarantee the minimum water needed by the vines. We obtained good vegetation development and production similar to previous years with the exception of White Grenache. Due to a “setting failure” during the flowering period, production was reduced by approximately 30%.

Certainly, the lack of precipitation and the low relative humidity during the maturation period have greatly favored the perfect control of the microbial diseases of the grape, which has allowed to obtain a correct ripening and good health conditions of the grape.
